Tigerbraai Dirt Ride Report - 13 January 2019

It is always great to start off the new year with a fantastic dirt ride, and that is exactly what the Tigerbraai Dirt Ride turned out to be.

When I arrived at BP at 6:50 on Sunday morning (departure was planned for 7:30) and there were already 18 bikes I knew we were going to have great ride. At 7:30 we were 51 bikes in total that gathered at BP (two more riders joined later) – what a site. We left BP and traveled via Irene in the direction of Elandsfontein. When we hit dirt the first time, we stopped to split the group in two just to make it more manageable. I took the first +-25 bikes onward, and old faithful (aka Willem) was promoted to leader of the second group who left a few minutes later.

The road to the venue was in very good condition despite the rain that fell the previous week. I few small unexpected water puddles almost scared us, but overall it was an easy, relaxing ride and the scenery was beautiful. The first group was a few minutes ahead, so just before the venue we took a few extra turns so that the second group can catch up. Our timing was perfect and we arrived together at the venue, Tierpoort Adventure Farm.

After a quick briefing by our hosts, Thomas Bohm and Edrique Botha, the green riders left to explore the training grounds. The red riders (+-25 bikes) followed Edrique on an excellent outride through the bush. We spent about an hour riding on a technical mountain bike trail traversing rocks, sharp bends, narrow single spoor tracks and lush green forest paths.

A nice hamburger and salad lunch, prepared by Edrique’s wife Renee, awaited us after the ride.
Thank you Willem for assisting with the second group, as well as Marinus and Egbert for sweeping. A great thank you to Edrique, Renee and Thomas for hosting us and showing their training venue to the Club. I am sure the Club members will make good use of it in the year to come.

Ride statistics:
Distance travelled: 80km to the venue
Bikes: 53
Pillions: 5
Visitors at the venue: 3
